On the afternoon of February 14th, Ridge Culver firefighters responded to Irondequoit Bay for a person in the water through the ice. A citizen had spotted the man from the Bay Bridge. Crews quickly donned ice rescue gear, walked across the frozen bay, made contact with the patient and secured him to the surface. This, just a week after Ridge Culver crews performed NYS Ice Water Rescue refresher training!

A crew from Sea Breeze Fire Department simultaneously made their way to the patient with "Rapid Deployment Craft" (RDC) which is an ice-water rescue craft.

The crews worked together to secure the patient and returned him to shore to an awaiting ambulance. Great teamwork between all agencies lead to a rapid and successful outcome!

Point Pleasant FD had an Ice crew standing by to deploy if needed, and West Webster FD also had crews preparing to assist from the east.
