Sprinkler contains fire at Irondequoit senior living facility.

Last night around 8 pm, Ridge Culver Firefighters responded for the fire alarm activated at the Shire at Culverton Senior Living facility on Culver Rd. While en route, units were advised that police were on location with smoke showing. The first arriving Fire unit confirmed the initial reports and declared a working fire. Crews found a small fire contained to a closet in a room on the second floor. The fire was contained to the room of origin from the help of the newly installed sprinkler system. With the help of the newly installed sprinkler system and the updated fire alarm system, this allowed for early detection of the fire. Sprinkler/Fire alarm systems and smoke detectors save lives and can make a large positive impact such as this incident. Last night's incident brought in various other fire departments to assist though our mutual aid plan.
