Ridge Culver firefighters rescue man from frozen bay.

On the afternoon of February 14th, Ridge Culver firefighters responded to Irondequoit Bay for a person in the water through the ice. A citizen had spotted the man from the Bay Bridge. Crews quickly donned ice rescue gear, walked across the frozen bay, made contact with the patient and secured him to the surface. This, just a week after Ridge Culver crews performed NYS Ice Water Rescue refresher training!

No Caption Ridge Culver receives new Hydraulic Rescue Equipment

Ridge Culver recently received our compliment of new Battery Powered Electro-Hydraulic Rescue Tools from Amkus Rescue Systems.

These tools were purchased off a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant that we received this past fall (2018).

RCFD received nearly $70,000 in grant monies towards the purchase of these tools. Without these grant monies, this full compliment of needed extrication equipment ... (Full Story & Photos)

Ice/Cold Water rescue training

On Tuesday & Wednesday, Ridge Culver firefighters participated in Ice/Cold water rescue training. This was annual in service training, refreshing skills needed for ice/cold water rescues. Also in attendance were some members from other departments in Monroe County. Ridge Road, Gates, Brighton & Egypt. Thank you to NYS Fire who provided extra equipment and instructors. Firefighters were called tonight along with Irondequoit Ambulance for a person in need of urgent medical care. When they arrived they found the driveway to the residence impassable by this weekends snow storms. On top of more than a foot of snow in the driveway, there was two feet of hard packed snow at the bottom from the streets being plowed.

As the temperature slowly rises please help us, help you! Buried Hydrants like this severely impede our operation at fires. It takes 1 Firefighter in all of their turnout gear and equipment several minutes to clear a path to secure a water source to the fire trucks.
