New Smoke Detector law to take affect on April 1st 2019

Did you know that RCFD offers Smoke Detector Installations? Ridge Culver has been offering this service since we received a federal grant for combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms in 2013. Our stock of those combination alarms has since been depleted. But thanks to the help of the Red Cross we continue to carry new Smoke Detectors for residents in need. Over the last two days, Lt. Metcalfe and F.F. Serenati attended two additional classes to continue their education of Public Information Officer. Acquired house for training

Some of you might be noticing some activity at this old house on East Ridge Rd near the 104 eastbound bridge. The Town of Irondequoit currently owns this property and has it slated to be demolished, in preparation for the entrance to the new highway garage. Before the house is demolished, they have offered the property to the fire department to utilize for training.

No Caption Ridge Culver firefighters rescue man from frozen bay.

On the afternoon of February 14th, Ridge Culver firefighters responded to Irondequoit Bay for a person in the water through the ice. A citizen had spotted the man from the Bay Bridge. Crews quickly donned ice rescue gear, walked across the frozen bay, made contact with the patient and secured him to the surface. This, just a week after Ridge Culver crews performed NYS Ice Water Rescue refresher training!

Ridge Culver receives new Hydraulic Rescue Equipment

Ridge Culver recently received our compliment of new Battery Powered Electro-Hydraulic Rescue Tools from Amkus Rescue Systems.

These tools were purchased off a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant that we received this past fall (2018).

RCFD received nearly $70,000 in grant monies towards the purchase of these tools. Without these grant monies, this full compliment of needed extrication equipment ... (Full Story & Photos)
